Inter Allies coach, Tony Lokko has suggested that the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season should start in December after the government lifted a ban on contact sports in its latest address on measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus.
The President announced October 30 at the date for the return of the Ghana Premier League and the Division One League.
“With respect to football, after due consultations with the Ghana Football Association, it has been decided that the Ghana Premier League and the Division One Football League will restart on Friday, 30th October 2020 with a full regime of testing of the players, technical and management staff,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The trainer in an interview with S.K Ntim of Bryt FM in Koforidua expressed joy and welcomed the decision by the President to lift the ban for the return of football.
But he has proposed December as the right date for the resumption of the Ghana league season.
“Looking at what has happened; there are a lot things that needs to be put down for us to go through which is not going to be a one or two weeks. After that too, we the team and technical team will also have its own period of preparation towards the year”
“So I believe November or December will be right. I’m saying this because they are going to have a lot of meetings which will end up in September and October too definitely there be measures to put in place for us to go through the covid-19 test which will take about two weeks, so October too is gone”
“For our preparations, it will take about six weeks so I think December will be fair,” he said.
