Effutu Member of Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has emphasised that it has come to a point for political leaders to congregate around issues and do less partisanship and mischief politics.
Speaking as part of International Parliamentarism-Day, a day set aside annually to commemorate parliaments over the world.
According to the Deputy Majority Leader, the day also recognises the unique and enduring systems of parliamentary democracy as being the standard for parliamentary discussion.
He said, “a day as this is appropriate for our parliament to do self-introspection, self retrospection to measure progress, identify challenges and formulate ways to address them”.
“The democracy of this country has gotten to a point where as political leaders, we must congregate around issues and do less of partisanship and the mischief politics because we create a rather unfortunate impression to our followers who think that we box in the chamber and we are enemies, so they carry on the suspicion which is unfortunate” the MP stated.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin represented the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu who was engaged in a similar important program.
