The US Embassy in Tanzania is closing for two days as a major internet outage continues to affect multiple East African countries.
The outage has caused poor connectivity in Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda since Sunday morning as a result of damage to under-sea cable which connects the region to the rest of the world.
According to internet monitoring group NetBlocks, Tanzania has been hit the worst by the outage.
Kenyan operator Safaricom said they were working on restoring a stable internet connection.
This is the second time Africa has experienced a major fiber cut this year — a suspected underwater rock slide off Ivory Coast in March caused several submarine cables to go offline, impacting 13 countries on the West Africa seaboard
