The Board of Trustee Chairman for Nurses and Midwives Association (RNMA), Mr Jerry Mertins Aziamadia has disclosed that Ghanaian leaders can’t use the International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout to pay its health workers in the country.
According to the Board Chair, it is disgraceful for Ghana to use IMF money to pay health workers as it is going to lead the country into an enormous mess.
He added that “we have failed as a country due to the promised made by the Ministry of Health in a negotiation to paid service personnel with (IMF) bailout.’’
In an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon of Bryt FM, Mr Aziamadia stated clearly that IMF conditions can’t place restrictions on the service delivery by the health sector due to the population of the country.
“Over a couple of weeks, the national service personnel had a meeting with the ministry of health that the government is going to use the IMF money to pay the service personnel’s which we all know it can’t be possible,’’ Mr Aziamadia said.
Mr Aziamadia indicated that service personnel were not paid over twelve months adding that from 2020 the government couldn’t post health workers into a permanent job in the country.
He therefore pleaded to President Nana Addo Dankwa to intervene in the challenges by the health workers and the national service personnel’s who have not been paid for the past twelve month.
