The degree of fear that the NDC displayed in response to the proposal for a presidential debate between John Mahama and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has shocked Nana Akomea, the deputy chairman of the NPP national campaign team.
Speaking on Joy FM, Nana Akomea stated that while it’s understandable if the NDC didn’t want to debate, the numerous justifications the party is offering to get out of the debate indicate that the idea of facing off against Dr. Bawumia is deeply unsettling to the party.
Nana Akomea listed some reasons by the NDC for dodging the debate as they saying “Bawumia has not debated market women, Bawumia has not debated with the media or held a press conference, Bawumia should first debate with NDC members at Parliament, Bawumia, in his call for a debate, has not shown enough respect for John Mahama, Bawumia has shown belligerence and ‘patapaa’ in his call for a debate, Bawumia has not shown accountability for his stewardship as Vice President”.
He added; “The NDC even attacked the Institute of Economic Affairs (EIA) for proposing to organize the debate, describing the Institute as pandering to the whims of the NPP.”
These justifications, according to Nana Akomea, are “frivolous.” She emphasized that a discussion will allow John Mahama and the NDC to hold Bawumia accountable for all of their accusations against him.
“It is therefore shocking that the NDC is doing all they can to avoid a debate”, he emphasized.
