Mahama Abdulai, a Road and Building Consultant has asked politicians to refrain from using the cost of infrastructures as a backup as their campaign message to Ghanaians.
Saying that the comparisons are deceptive and do not give the real reason and issues involved in each construction been made in the country.
Abdulai spoke on this following the ongoing debate on the infrastructures in the country between the ruling party New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him it’s not politic to politicize infrastructure by politicians.
“I don’t see why politicians will come into that debate that their road is much better and less expensive. Every single road has unique features. You can have a road and the next kilometre the soil is so good and you don’t have to do any carting to go beyond the existing ground. For the next kilometre, the soil could be so bad, you have to go 1.5 to remove the bad material and travel about 30 kilometres to go and dispose of the materials. Disposing of that material also has a cost component.” He said.
At the recent town hall meeting and result fair, the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia had said the cost of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange by the NDC was of the same cost of the Tamale, Tema Obetsebi Lambtey and Pokuase interchange.
Emphasizing that the previous government failed to ensure the value of money and making good use of the finds for the project.
According to Abdulai this there is no need for this comparison considering the different factors that affect the cost of projects.
Taking into consideration the soil type, excavation and the disposal of the excavation materials.
