Labour Expert, Austin Gamey has expressed his surprise at the lack of knowledge surrounding labour law implementation in the country.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he emphasized that he is surprised for many years, many Ghanaians, including workers and some employers, seem to have a limited understanding of how to navigate labour laws effectively.
“I’m highly surprised because I know people who teach about labour relations and I teach programs relating to labour relations so I’m amazed and surprised that we are still behaving as if we are still in class one and not knowing where to pass and where to go”. He stated
He cited situations when people, even those with advanced degrees, announce strikes in public and give one-day or one-month notice without adhering to the correct protocols.
He underlined that although many union members either ignore or adhere to labor legislation without fully comprehending it, it is a practical issue rather than a theoretical one.
