The Eastern Regional Communication officer of the largest Opposition Party -NDC, Darlas Ampomah Williams has described as shameful the recommissioning of Mpraeso’s primary substation by government.
According to him, the facility was installed during John Dramani Mahama led government and was commissioned in 2016.
He said it is therefore a waste of task payer’s money and deceptive for the same facility to be recommissioned.
“This facility was commissioned in 2016 under the leadership of H.E John Dramani Mahama to improve upon power supply in the Kwahu area. It is shameful this government is wasting taxpayer’s money recommissioning it. This has been the characteristics of this government because it has nothing to show for the huge borrowings it has made increasing our debt stock to an unprecedented level”.
The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, on Thursday, November 12, 2020, commissioned the 2×10MVA 33/11KV Mpraeso primary substation to end erratic and unstable power supply in Kwahu Ridge and Kwahu Afram Plains area of the Eastern Region.
The cost of the project was Ghc55,006,004.8
Before the construction of the Mpraeso primary substation, the Kwahu Ridge and Afram Plains areas depended on the power supply from the Nkawkaw Bulk Supply Point (BSP) with only two feeders; the mountains 11KV and Donkorkrom 33KV, resulting in a frequent outage in the entire enclave whenever there was a fault on the mountain feeder.
Commissioning the project, the Managing Director of ECG, Mr. Kwame Agyemang-Budu said, the facility will cater to the rapid load growth on the Kwahu ridge and the Afram Plains enclave to ensure reliable power supply to customers and minimize outages.
He added, “It will reduce the length of HV Circuits thereby, reducing technical loses, ensure the availability of excess power required for both present and future Investment, enhance the customers end voltage in the supply Communities and allow the company to link the various 11KV feeders into a ring system on the Kwahu ridge to ensure system flexibility”.
The Managing Director stated that the strategic location of the primary substation makes it possible for ECG Eastern electrical network to link Ashanti SBU electrical network to Agogo in case of an emergency.
He was hopeful that the improvement in power supply in the Kwahu area will boost the tourism industry and industrialization in line with the government’s vision.
The Eastern Regional Manager of ECG, Ing. Michael Baah said, the company was worried about the frequent power outage in the enclave has since been working around the clock to fix it hence the Investment in the installation of the substation.
