On this special occasion of International Women’s Day, the Education Ministry has emphasised on some strides it is making to close the gender gap and embrace equity.
This year’s theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” highlights the role of innovative technology in promoting gender equality and meeting the health and developmental needs of women and girls.
The Education ministry are proud that a total of 251,969 girls representing 49.8% of total placements have been placed in various Senior High Schools and TVET Institutions.
The sector minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum was particularly glad about the progress the ministry have made as a country to offer full and equal access to women and girls to actively participate in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
“The good news is that, this academic year, the Ministry has operationalised five (5) STEM boarding schools, with one being only a girls’ STEM Senior High School” he stated.
The minister added “I am hopeful that through the Ministry of Education’s Education Strategic Plan (ESP), we shall see many girls pursue STEM related career pathways”.
