The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 19-year-old Driver’s mate, Raymond Abbey, to five years imprisonment in hard labor for causing harm to one Peter Otabil with a Machine for suspecting him of having sexual affairs with his girlfriend.
After a full trial, the accused, Raymond Abbey pleaded guilty to causing harm contrary to section 69 of the criminal offenses Act 1960(Act 29) but his accomplice, Doris Sackey was discharged.
Prosecuting, Inspector Samuel Owusu said the complainant, Peter Otabil is a resident of Nyanoa, first accused person, Doris Sackey also resides in Nyanoa while the second accused person, Raymond Abbey is also a driver’s mate at Accra but comes from Nyanoa.
He said Raymond Abbey is in a relationship with Doris Sackey and they have a child, and for some time now, Doris Sackey has been given his mobile phone to Peter Otabil to charge for her but Abbey suspected that Otabil was having sexual affairs with her, hence, charging her Mobile phone frequently.
The Prosecutor said on 31/05/2022, the accused bought a machete in Accra and traveled to Nyanoa, and asked his girlfriend to invite the complainant to come to their house and take her phone and charge for her as the accused planned to hide in a place near their room and attack the complainant.
A few minutes later, the complainant for the phone was attacked with a machete and injured by Abbey.
The complainant later rushed to the Police and reported the case and he was given a medical form to seek treatment.
The police later arrested the accused and charged him and sent him to court for Prosecution.
