Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Boadu, has strongly criticized the police administration over what he described as a failure to adequately protect lives and property during voting at some polling stations.
Speaking on Adekyee Mu Nsem, a current affairs programme on Bryt FM, Mr. Boadu said he was “totally disappointed” by the security situation during the electoral exercise. According to him, incidents that occurred at three to four polling stations should not have overwhelmed the entire police administration.
He questioned why the security agencies were unable to maintain law and order at a limited number of centres, stressing that elections are critical national assignments that require maximum preparedness and professionalism from law enforcement officers.
“It is worrying that when voting is taking place at just three or four polling stations, the whole police administration cannot guarantee the safety of citizens and protect property. That is not good at all,” he stated.
Mr. Boadu further alleged that the person involved in the incident was a female former Member of Parliament who also served as a Minister of State. While he did not disclose further details about the nature of the incident, he indicated that the development was unfortunate and should not have occurred under the watch of security authorities.
He revealed that discussions had taken place following the incident and hinted that certain steps would be considered moving forward. However, he noted that the full outcome of those deliberations may only become clearer ahead of another by-election.
The former NPP General Secretary emphasise the need for the police and other security agencies to review their strategies to prevent a recurrence of such situations in future electoral exercises. He called for greater vigilance, accountability, and coordination to safeguard Ghana’s democratic process.
