The Flagbearer of the largest Opposition Party in Ghana, National Democratic Congress ((NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has donated Personal Protective Equipment, PPEs, to two Hospitals in the Eastern Region.
The beneficiary hospitals are the Eastern Regional Hospital- Koforidua and Hawa Memorial Hospital at Akyem Osiem.
The items donated include a pair of Gumboots, disposal coverall suits, Medical Protective overall suits, goggles, face masks, and hand sanitizers.
The items are part of 650 PPEs and 650 pairs of gumboots Mr. John Dramani Mahama Flagbearer of the largest Opposition party in Ghana-National Democratic Congress, NDC, is distributing to several medical facilities across the country to help frontline health workers protect themselves while managing coronavirus cases.
The medical items were presented on behalf of Mr. John Dramani Mahama by Dr. Jonas Asamoah, a Public Health Expert also a member of the NDC COVID-19 Technical team Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
Dr. Jonas Asamoah told the media that, the donation by the former President is part of his contribution to the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic in the country.
He said frontline health workers need the PPEs to protect themselves while they manage the deadly disease hence the donation.
On their part, the Acting Medical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Dr. Cardinal Newton and the Administrator of Hawa Memorial Hospital Ruben Oppong both commended the former President for the kind gesture.
They described as timely the donation of the PPEs which are much needed in managing COVID-19 cases.
The donation by Former President John Mahama was accompanied by some Regional Executives including Regional Vice Chairman, William Atamudzi, Regional Secretary Cudjoe Adukpo, Deputy Treasurer -Richard Obibini Lartey, Regional Deputy Youth Organizer- Richard Etornam Nyarko and Deputy Communication Director Micheal Akorli Ofoe.
According to the Ghana Health Service, GHS, as of 6th April 2020, 11:30pm a total of 287 cases of COVID-19 with five (5) deaths have been recorded. The regional distribution of the cases is as follows: Greater Accra Region has most cases (258) followed by the Ashanti Region (18), Northern Region (10), Upper West Region (1), Eastern Region (1) and Upper East Region (1).
A total of 172 cases were reported from the routine and enhanced surveillance activities and those from travelers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale are 115.
