Former finance minister and unsuccessful candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential nomination in 2024, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has said he will actively campaign for John Dramani Mahama, a former president and the NDC’s nominee.
The former governor of the Bank of Ghana revealed that he will play a significant role in the main opposition’s effort to unseat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections.
On The Point of View on Citi TV, he said that he will unquestionably support John Mahama “because he must win” and claimed that the NDC will unquestionably win the 2024 elections.
“I am confident that we are winning because we are working and the NPP has been on for seven years and has done little but our performance has been the best since independence. Between 2009 and 2012, our performance has been the best since independence.”
“Between 2009 and 2012, our indicators were first class. Interest rates were the lowest in forty years. Our GDP was 14.5% in 2011 excluding the oil sector.”
Mr. Duffour’s bid to become the NDC’s leader came to an end when he decided not to run for the position.
He charged that the party’s leadership had violated an earlier understanding and guarantee provided to the three candidates for president at the time to address the concerns expressed about the register prior to the election.
He also made an attempt to halt the primaries on May 13 by having his attorneys submit an interlocutory order against the polls, but they eventually withdrew their request.
