The Asamankese Traditional Council in the Eastern Region has summoned a local Journalist to appear before it over alleged false publication on Covid-19 case in the area.
The Journalist (Name Withheld) Circulated news report he authored under the headline “Covid-19 danger looms in West Akim-MCE cries”
The Journalist alleged in the publication, “All efforts and attempt by the Municipal Chief Executive for the West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region, Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic are in vain following negligence of the municipal health directorate, and the government hospital led by Dr. Boateng and Dr. Ayarakwa respectively.
A reliable source within the corridors of the municipal assembly and health directorate indicates a 54-year-old woman who has contracted Covid-19 in the municipality is left unattended to by doctors, nurses and health workers regardless of all the assistance and PPEs provided by the MCE at the Asamankese St. Thomas SHS isolation center. The helpless woman for more than 48hours has neither tasted any food or received medical attention.
The Covid-19 patient who came to the Asamankese Gov. Hospital from Pabi on Monday 20th April for diagnosis upon showing symptoms of the pandemic was interestedly left to return to her vicinity to mingle with the residents without quarantined after the blood sample was taken and sent to the Nogushis Laboratory.”
The Journalist Continued in the report that “Few days after the blood sample result proved positive, the medical team in the municipality according to reports still reneged in their responsibility of transporting the confirmed case (patient) to a treatment center but took the intervention of the municipal chief executive to quickly arrange the transport and transfer of the woman to an isolation center in the municipality.
And upon the arrival of the patient at the isolation center on Monday 27th April, no medical person or staff has attended to her let alone ensuring the protocols in handling such patients.
This development according to reliable sources has thrown the MCE into anger against the health directorate for deliberately promoting the spread of the pandemic in the municipality. No contact tracing according to sources has been done and absolutely nothing of mitigating the spread is enhanced in the municipality by the health directorate.
Further reports suggest Hon. Seth Oduro Boadu is making or frantic efforts to bringing in private medical staff outside the municipality out of his pocket to savage the situation following the refusal of the municipal health directorate to perform their professional call”.
This report by the Journalist angered the West Akyem Municipal Health Director Dr. Samuel Boateng and other Doctors at the Asamankese Government Hospital saying the publication was utterly inaccurate.
Their investigation revealed that the Journalist is a close friend to the MCE for the area, therefore, adduced that, the MCE misinformed the Journalist to dent their image but when confronted with the issue, the MCE denied Knowledge.
The Health Director complained to the Chief of Asamankese after a meeting held on Covid-19. The Chief immediately summoned the Journalist to the palace today at 9:00am together with the Health Director and the MCE to adjudicate on the matter.
