Good remuneration is the most important factor that influences an employee’s motivation at the workplace but many Ghanaian journalists are contributing significantly in the media fraternity with low income.
High salary forms part of motivation but it will be surprising that some journalists are working effectively without salary.
Are they happy to be on screen, radio or on scenes for reporting, someone may ask?
Simon Oliver Sinek, an American author and Inspirational speaker on business leadership once said that working hard for something you don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something you love is called passion.
In fact, Ghanaian journalists have passion for their work and they have worked hard in the past years.
The Country Analyst for the Beijing Global Media Influence, Aurelia Ayisi has said that journalists in the media fraternity must be paid well.
According to Aurelia Ayisi, conditions of journalists must be improved to prevent external influences on critical reportage on serious issues.
Speaking on key findings during press forum by Freedom House Research Dissemination on Beijing Global Media Influence Report at Capital view hotel in the Eastern region, Aurelia Ayisi stated that the Chinese government has expanded its global media footprint adding that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its proxies are using more sophisticated and coercive tactics to shape media narratives and suppress critical reporting.
She added that the Chinese government, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, is accelerating a massive campaign to influence media outlets and news consumers around the world.
The key findings by Freedom House Research Dissemination indicated that only half of the countries examined in the study achieved a rating of resilient, while the remaining half were designated as vulnerable.
Governments, media outlets, civil society, and technology firms and others have a significant role to play in enhancing democratic resilience in the face of increasingly aggressive CCP influence efforts.
Laws governing freedom of information or media ownership, which are present in many democracies, helped to ensure transparency and insulate media ecosystems from CCP influence.
The engagement in the Eastern region was to enlighten the knowledge of journalists on development on the global media outlet especially on how China improved its media relations over the years.
Journalists in the Eastern region also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Aurelia Ayisi and her team for elevating their knowledge on progress by the Chinese government.
