Abuakwa North Municipal on Thursday, 23rd August, 2023 won the second edition of the Eastern Regional Championship of the Junior Science & Maths Quiz 2023 held at the Regional Library, Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
A number of thirteen Municipals/Districts qualified from their zones and contested in the regional championship, out of which Abuakwa North, Fanteakwa North, Okere and Atiwa West qualified from the preliminary stages to the finals. At the end of the final contest, Abuakwa North came first with 53 pts, Fanteakwa North 33pts, Atiwa West 32.5pts and Okere with 32pts.
The Regional Championship of the Junior Science & Maths Quiz, an initiative of the Regional STEM/STMIE Coordinator, Mr Raphael Nketiah, started last year and the maiden edition was won by Kwahu West Municipal.
The Eastern Regional Director of Education, Mrs Ivy Asantewa Owusu in her address congratulated all contestants for representing their districts and added that, the competition is very vital as it’s seeks to prepare students to fit into the global world. She said, it is also going to build their confidence levels as they transit into the next academic ladder.
This is an initiative of the Regional Directorate to promote STEM Education. Mrs Ivy Asantewa Owusu further appreciated the efforts of teachers, coordinators and the organizers and urged them to continue to whip up students enthusiasm in the study of Science and Mathematics.
