Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region has said three NPP Members of Parliament shocked him last week during the inaugural ceremony for the eighth Parliament.
According to him, Assin Central MP, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, Member of the Parliament for the Effutu constituency, Central Region, and Kobina Tahir Hammond, Member of Parliament representing Adansi-Asokwa constituency of the Ashanti Region surprised him by keeping quiet till the end of the process.
Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka speaking with Joy News Sunday evening said these three MPs are known to be “Controversial” and speak frequently for the NPP on the floor of Parliament but before during the dissolution of the 7th Parliament and the inauguration of the 8th, these three MPs keep quiet and commanded them for their action.
Members of Parliament on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, commenced an exercise to elect a Speaker for the House.
The Speakership position was keenly contested by Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye of the NPP and Mr. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin of the NDC.
However, the exercise which saw Mr. Bagbin emerge victorious with 138 votes out of 275 was characterized by unspeakable acts including the snatching of ballot papers and a ballot box by the MPs.
