The Kade District Magistrate Court Presided by His Worship, Emmanuel K. Boadu on Friday remanded into Police custody, Kwadwo Owusu -the miner who struck the head of another miner with stone leading to his death during a fight.
His plea was however not taken. He will reappear on January 26, 2021.
The Court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the last suspect identified as ‘Cash’ now at large.
According to the Police, the body of the deceased would also be conveyed to the police hospital morgue, Accra Saturday morning for an autopsy on Tuesday, January 21, 2021.
The suspect -Kwadwo Awuah alias Otoyo,41, who went into hiding after allegedly murdering the victim reported himself to the Police in the company of his lawyer Benard Donkor Owiredu on Thursday, January 7, 2020, at about 4:30 pm.
He was arrested, put in Police custody, and arraigned before the court today.
As reported earlier, on Tuesday the Kade District Court similarly remanded one of the accused persons- Kwadwo Owusu into Police custody under the provisional charge of murder to reappear before the court on January 21, 2021.
Background
One person was confirmed dead in a clash between two groups of illegal miners at Akyem Aworoso near Akyem Apinamang in the Denkyembuor District of the Eastern Region.
Mybrytfmonline.com has gathered that on January 3, 2021, one Desmond Anokye Frimpong, 27, accompanied by Grace Dankwah of Apinamang reported at the Police station with marks of assault in his palms and belly, and the former reported that whilst he was returning from home after mining at ‘Awroso’ a suburb of Apinamang with his friend Gyekye Matthew, 33, now deceased, however, on reaching the outskirt of Apinamang, three suspects namely Kwadwo Owusu aged 44 years, Kojo Awuah and one Cash also illegal miners attacked and ordered them to surrender their gold because they went to mine on their concession.
However, they resisted and in the process suspect Kwadwo Owusu hit the head of Gyekye Matthew with a stone and he fell unconscious.
He was rushed to St. Dominic’s Hospital, Akwatia for treatment where he was admitted and passed on.
Police investigation led to the arrest of suspect Kwadwo Owusu but Kwadwo Awuah and one other Identified as cash were at large.
