Kade district office of the Ghana National Fire Service is calling on cooperate bodies, NGOs and philanthropists to as matter of urgency help acquire a fire tender.
The district has been without a fire tender since the old one involved in a fatal accident on 31st July, 2024.
The situation has raised eyebrows about the safety of people in the district after a three-storey building was razed down by a fire outbreak over the weekend.
The Municipal Public Relations Officer (PRO) for GNFS in Kade, ADO 1 David Ohene, speaking to Bryt fm news indicated the situation is worrying as his outfit has recorded several fire outbreaks since the old fire thunder became dormant.
He revealed the district depends on Oda and Achiase fire thunders, a situation he describes as unreliable due to the long distances and poor road networks in those areas.
“Our old fire tender is currently in Koforidua for repairs after the incident but only God knows when it will be done. We have no other way to deal with fire outbreaks than to depend on that of Oda and Achiase” he stated.
Mr. Ohene, however, indicated his outfit has been engaging in public education in order to alert the people in the area to be careful of fire outbreaks since it would be difficult to control them without fire tenders.
Availability and state of fire thunders across the country have been major concern as most of them have either broken down or in poor state to even operate well as expected.
Fire officers have become victims as some staff are sometimes physically assaulted whenever they fail to respond to cases in time.
