Tensions are rising at the Kantamanto Secondhand Clothing Market, as a group of concerned traders is demanding the immediate resignation of their union leaders, accusing them of making unilateral decisions without consulting members.
At a press briefing, Nana Kofi Addo, the leader of the aggrieved traders, alleged that the 13 unions representing different businesses in the market have been acting without transparency, especially in the wake of the recent fire disaster that devastated parts of the market.
Secret Dealings with a ‘Mysterious’ Foundation?
The traders claim that their leaders engaged a foundation, supposedly offering to help rebuild the market. However, after further investigation, the traders believe the foundation may be attempting to take control of the market yard under the guise of providing support.
“As I speak to you, yesterday at 1 a.m., I received intel that the leadership of the 13 unions was holding a secret meeting. After several calls to verify, it turned out to be true. This has raised serious suspicions—why hold such a meeting at dawn?” Nana Kofi Addo questioned.
He further alleged that the union executives may be plotting to evacuate traders from the market while pretending to act in their best interest.
Traders Reject Outside Influence
The group has made it clear that they do not want any external foundation or organization interfering in the affairs of the market. They are urging the 13 union leaders to immediately stop engaging entities whose interests may conflict with those of the traders.
With frustration mounting, the Kantamanto traders are calling for urgent action, vowing to take stronger measures if their demands for accountability and leadership change are not met.
