The Central East Police Command, which oversees Kasoa and the surrounding area, has declared that it is ready for the 2024 election and promised to crack down on any acts of thuggery during and after the polls.
The Regional Commander, DCOP Joseph Owusu-Bempah, stated his outfit had located a few suspected thugs in Kasoa and other surrounding locations and were keeping a careful eye on their actions.
He indicated that despite the general calm in the region, the National Democracy Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had filed complaints and counter complaints against the Command regarding planned hooliganism.
“We are ready to contain any activity of thuggery and anybody who tries to destabilize the election and the peace of the region will face the full rigours of the law,” he cautioned.
In a statement given on his behalf at the most recent Central Regional Coordinating Council meeting in Cape Coast, DCOP Owusu-Bempah served the notice.
He declared that 1,422 police officers had been sent to keep the 731 voting places under the Command peaceful and orderly.
To respond to distress calls, there would also be about 17 fast response teams on the ground.
