Former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his own party, for what he called a systemic disregard for grassroots followers.
Agyapong did not mince words when he criticized the leadership for abandoning devoted foot soldiers who labored during battles.
“People sacrificed their lives to make you who you are. The least you can do is appreciate their efforts,” he said in an interview with Kwesi Pratt Jnr. on Pan African TV.
He disclosed that numerous party supporters faced humiliating treatment when they sought assistance, in addition to being refused appointments and employment prospects.
He used a chat with a minister who had lost his parliamentary seat to illustrate his point.
“He said he told some young guys to go and vote and they replied, ‘We’re not voting because when we needed jobs, they were charging us.’ And truly, truly he lost the election,” Agyapong disclosed.
The comments have sparked a heated online discussion, with many party members expressing similar annoyances and demanding that the NPP change the way it handles its supporters.
