Residents of Ketu South in the Volta Region are disturbed about the deployment of armed security presence in the Constituency particularly along the borders of Ghana and Togo.
Troops of military, Immigration, National Security, and Police have been deployed to the Volta Region border town of Aflao and its adjoining villages.
The deployment was made ahead of the Electoral Commission’s compilation of New Voters’ Register beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
According to residents, the presents of heavy security personnel established an operational base in the Constituency seems to be a ploy to intimidate them to ostensibly reduce the number of persons who register.
The Parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in Ketu South Dzifa Gomashie is worried about the development.
According to her, President Akufo-Addo who prides himself advocate of human rights and democracy should not be supervising such intimidatory tactics.
However, the Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive Elliot Edem Agbenorwu has said the presence of the security is to check movement of persons from Togo to the area to curb the spread of Coronavirus from the neighboring Country-Togo
