Rebecca Oforiwaa Darko, popularly known as ‘Abena Payase,’ an aspiring Assembly member for Old Estate East in the New Juaben South municipality of the Eastern region, has organized a free health screening initiative, leaving a trail of positive impact in the electoral area.
Hundreds of residents benefitted from the health screening exercise conducted by clinicians with various expertise.
Medications were also administered.
The event, held at Old Estate, also saw the registration of over five hundred(500) residents under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
In her address to the community, Abena Payase emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, stating that early detection of diseases can save costs and contribute to increased productivity by maintaining good health.
The aspiring Assembly member made it clear that her initiative was not merely a campaign strategy but a genuine effort to create awareness about the necessity of monitoring one’s health regularly to prevent unexpected illnesses and untimely deaths.
“I am not doing this because I need votes, but it’s to create awareness on the need to check health status regularly to forestall unexpected sickness and untimely deaths,” she affirmed.
Leading a team of healthcare professionals from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Koforidua, Senior Physician Assistant Franklin Nartey expressed the importance of the initiative.
He stated, “Madam Becky’s endeavor comes at a critical time when preventable illnesses are on the rise. Early detection and treatment can manage conditions like high and low blood pressures, preventing strokes and other health complications. We all have to be interested in our health issues because in recent times people are falling sick , some are also dying, there are cases of strokes all over because of high and low blood pressures. These are things that can easily be managed with early detection and treatment”. He explained
The health screening not only aimed at diagnosing health issues but also sought to ease the financial burden of accessing healthcare for the community, fostering stronger bonds within the residents.
This community-driven health initiative by Abena Payase reflects a commitment to the overall well-being of her constituents, transcending the boundaries of electoral campaigns.
She is optimistic of winning the Old Estate East Electoral Area district level election to enable her champion development and improve welfare of the people.
