A “shit bomb” attack at Ada Kyerematen M/A Basic ‘B’ School in Koforidua on Monday has forced teachers and students resort to conducting lessons under trees.
The “shit bombing” within the classrooms are alleged to have been perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals in the community.
Teachers, grappling with the daily challenge of cleaning human feces from classrooms, have reached a breaking point, with some threatening to go on strike if the issue persists.
The perpetrators usually perform rituals with red clothes, cracked eggs, powder, and snail shells after committing the act.
This has instilled fear among both educators and students, with suspicions of spiritual implications.
A female student collapsed and was hospitalized after sweeping and collecting human feces wrapped in polythene bags in a class six room in previous incident.
Her inability to walk normally has led to her discontinuation of schooling.
This distressing situation is not new, as some veteran teaching staff reveal that the Ada community has been engaged in similar acts repeatedly.
Authorities, seemingly powerless, have been unable to effectively address the issue, witnessing repeated incidents in different classrooms each academic term.
Mr. Francis Kwakye, the Headmaster, disclosed that the school has experienced six consecutive instances of indiscriminate “shit bombing,” forcing teachers to organize classes under trees.
In response to the recent incident, the traditional head of the community initiated a spiritual cleansing process, pouring libation in the affected classroom to curse the perpetrators and cleanse any potential spiritual implications on teachers and students.
The Municipal Education Directorate, following a meeting with the Headmaster and teachers on Monday, November 27, 2023, has committed to engaging key stakeholders, including the Municipal Assembly, Traditional Authorities, and community opinion leaders, to find a lasting solution to this distressing problem.
