Assembly Member for Ogua Electoral area in New Juaben South in Eastern Region George Agyei Frimpong, has been electrocuted while supporting an electrician to fix streelight ahead of reported arrival of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party.
Dr. Bawumia was expected to join a political Campaign walk event organized by Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi , MP for New Juaben South on Sunday morning.
The Assembly Member on Saturday around 3:00pm while supporting an electrician to fix a streetlight provided by the New Juaben South Assembly unfortunately electrocuted while moving a metallic ladder.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
The incident has shocked many sympathizers of the NPP and residents in the electoral area.
A visit to the family house Monday morning saw the bereaved family gathered and mourning. The deceased Assembly member left behind a wife and five children.
Among sympathizers met at the family house were Reverend Justice Assumeng, Ascension Presby District Minister of the Presbyterian Church where the Assembly Member fellowshiped.
A visit to the scene of the incident at Winners Chapel area, saw the remnants of incidents as high voltage power cables were torn apart.
The incident brings to fore question about politicization of streetlight which ends up in hands of unqualified individuals to fix.
