A carpenter, Kofi Narh, has been arraigned before Koforidua Circuit Court for attacking a 14-year-old Nigerian boy with acid for attempting to defecate at his shop.
The victim suffered acid burns on the face, elbow, wrist, and part of the neck and was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
The incident occurred on April 30, 2022.
On the fateful Sunday, the victim(name withheld) whilst fellowshipping at Watchman Charismatic Renewal Church reportedly suffered running stomach hence left the temple to ease himself which he entered an illegal structure serving as a carpentry shop near Diplomat and Embassy Hotel
Unknown to the boy, the carpenter who claims unidentified persons have been defecating at his shop for some time now during the weekend, was lurking with acid on his hand.
Upon seeing the boy attempting to ease himself, he poured the acid on him.
According to Christian Ofor, a family member of the victim, the carpenter chased the boy with the acid, and sprinkled it on him while the boy was screaming and running to the church premises for help “fire fire fire is burning me”.
The suspect was arrested by the Church members and handed over to the police.
He said that even though the victim has been treated and discharged, Doctors say he needs Plastic surgery and therefore appealed to philanthropists to help the family mobilizes funds for the surgery.
The victim lost his mother in 2017 and currently staying with the father together with two other siblings in Koforidua.
The family says they can’t afford the cost of plastic surgery hence appealing to philanthropists to support the boy.
According to the family, the boy is traumatized by the acid attack which worsens whenever he sees the scars on his body.
Meanwhile, the court case has been adjourned to September 4, 2022.
