The Koforidua District Court has remanded Vera Akosua Asare, a 25-year-old woman, into police custody after the death of her boyfriend, Daniel Omane, whom she allegedly doused with acid earlier this year.
She is to reappear before the court on August 18, 2025, as investigations continue.
The Effiduase District Police Command in the Eastern Region rearrested Vera after doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital confirmed Omane’s death on Friday, following months of treatment and skin graft surgeries.
Daniel Omane, a 29-year-old mobile phone dealer in Koforidua, sustained severe injuries after Vera allegedly poured acid on him while he was asleep in his room earlier this year.
He was initially treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for specialized care.
The partners reportedly had a turbulent relationship, often marred by frequent arguments and allegations of infidelity.
Vera, who had moved in with Omane after the birth of their now two-year-old daughter, was said to have publicly confronted women she suspected were flirting with her boyfriend.
Tensions between the two reached a breaking point, leading Omane to end the relationship. On the day of the attack, Vera allegedly entered his room and poured acid on him while he slept.
His screams drew the attention of co-tenants, who rushed to his aid and later handed the suspect over to police.
Vera was initially remanded into custody but was later granted bail to enable her care for their child.
However, with Omane’s passing, the police have pressed a fresh charge of murder.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have since visited the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to obtain the autopsy report to strengthen the case against her.
