A 29 year old driver’s mate Samuel Manu Addo has been convicted to 9 years imprisonment by Koforidua Circuit Court “B” presided by His Honour Mr. Kwame Polley Esq for breaking into a five bedroom vacant apartment at Okorase to steal.
He was convicted on his own plea of guilty when arraigned in court Wednesday August 31, 2022.
The facts of the case presented by the Prosecutor Chief Inspector Benard Annor are that, the complainant Stephen Anguah ,is a 47, year old business who resides in Koforidua -Adweso whilst the convict Samuel Manu Addo is a resident of a nearby community- Tei Nkwanta.
The Prosecutor said ,on August 28,2022 at about 5:00am, an unknown caller called the complainant on phone whilst on his bed to informed him that a thief has been arrested in his late mother’s vacant five bedroom apartment at Okorase Junction 2.
The caller explained that, the thief was arrested by vigilant residents at about about 2:00am same day and has handed him over to the police.
The complainant Stephen Anguah rushed to the house which he was preparing to occupy ,and , noticed the the thief damaged the main door of the apartment which cost about Ghc500 to gain access into the rooms.
Additionally, he observed the thief has stolen one Icona washing machine worth ghc 2,000 ,a 42 inch Hitachi flat screen television sets worth ghc6,000, woofer worth ghc500, strong digital decoder which cost ghc200 and Kente Clothes worth gh500.
The complainant dashed to the Okorase Police station where he saw the victim in custody with the stolen items retrieved.
He lodged formal complaint which the convict admitted the offence.
He was charged and put before court which he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing.
He was therefore sentenced 2years for the first count of unlawful damage, 9years for unlawful entry and stealing respectively all to run concurrently.
