The Proprietor and Headmistress of High Mowing International School located in Okorase near Koforidua have been granted Ghc100,000 bail with two sureties each, one to be justified.
They are being tried for the drowning of a 7-year-old pupil in a septic tank in the school on January 11, 2022.
They were put before Koforidua Circuit court on Thursday, January 20, 2022, but pleaded not guilty.
The accused persons will reappear on February 9, 2022.
Tears flow as a pupil who drowned in septic buried today.
Tears flowed today Tuesday, July 18, 2021, at the premises of the mortuary of Eastern Regional Hospital when the seven (7) year old pupil who drowned in a septic tank in school was being prepared for burial.
The bereaved family, sympathizers, and students of High Mowing International School thronged the premises of the mortuary to bid farewell to Raymond Opare- Ansah Offei.
It was a sad moment when the corpse was put in a casket for a brief burial service by Methodist Church where he fellowshipped.
Teachers and pupils of High Mowing International School performed an exercise to bid him farewell.
However, some bereaved family members who were incensed nearly stopped the school from going on with the exercise.
Background
The class three (3) pupil Raymond Opare- Ansah Offei a twin, accidentally fell into an opened septic tank on campus at the school on a fateful day.
He was removed and rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
Management of the school immediately informed the father of the deceased.
The father George Opare Offei,40, a driver who resides in Osabane accompanied by Dominic Mantey, a Businessman reported the incident to the Adweso District Police Command.
A team of police investigators was quickly dispatched to the school where management led by the proprietor Daniel Mantey and the school’s driver Adjei Ebenezer led police to the scene of the crime.
Police observed that the septic tank which is about 10feet deep was filled with water but not covered.
Police proceeded to the Eastern Regional Hospital to examine the body.
No marks of foul play were detected.
The body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue pending autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Father of the deceased child has withdrawn his two other children from the school.
According to George Opare Offei, the decision is due to insecurity in the school and the trauma the children have gone through as a result of the sudden death of their twin brother.
