The number of hawkers operating on pedestrian walkways and streets of New Juaben South continues to increase as Christmas approaches.
The hawkers have taken over all streets in Koforidua the regional capital seriously obstructing pedestrians.
The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days.
Umbrellas are erected at every available space on the walkway while some have erected wooden structures.
All manner of wares, vegetables, fish, tomatoes, second-hand panties and braziers, shoes, mobile phones & accessories, fruits, and confectionary are up for sale by the traders.
Many of the hawkers can visibly be seen selling at the roadside as well endangering themselves.
They are mostly heard advertising “bronya adu ooo momb3 t) bi” to with, Christmas is approaching so purchase something.
Ironically, the Municipal Assembly is located at the Central business city. Some of the hawkers are operating around the assembly.
Refuse generation has also sharply increased but remains uncollected littering parts of the Municipality.
