Management of Atekyem Hospital a Private Health facility in Koforidua in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region has announced the indefinite closure of the facility from March 31, 2020, over coronavirus outbreak in the Country.
Ghana has recorded 141 confirmed cases of coronavirus with five (5) fatalities as of March 28, 2020.
President of Ghana Akufo-Addo yesterday announced partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Ashanti Region.
According to a statement issued on March 27, 2020, and signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Atekyem Hospital, Dr. Samuel Boateng, the decision to lock down the facility is in adherence to the direction of President Akufo-Addo on social distancing, and also a measure to protect staff and clients from Covid-19 disease.
Atekyem Hospital is one of the few top private hospitals in the Eastern region delivering quality healthcare to residents.
It is well known for its annual dental screening exercise for residents in the New Juaben Municipality as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.
The decision to shut down operation comes at the back of indefinite suspension of all elective surgeries by the management of Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua.
According to the management of the facility, it will attend to only emergency surgeries.
A statement issued by the Hospital and signed by the Acting Medical Director, Dr. Cardinal Newton stated that “as part of measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) the management of the Eastern Regional hospital has adopted the following;
“Surgeries: The Regional Hospital will attend only to emergencies. All elective surgeries are on hold until further notice”
It added that “visitors: Visitors are limited to two persons per patient, however, due to the nature of the wards, one person would be permitted to visit at a time. Visiting time remains unchanged.”
