A three chamber and Hall apartment has been raised down by a ferocious fire Thursday afternoon in Two Streams a suburb of Koforidua in the Eastern regional capital.
Occupants of the house including a newlywed pregnant couple lost everything to the fire.
Apart from three gas cylinders that were salvaged by the fire service personnel to avert explosion, nothing was saved .
Fortunately no life was lost .Victims are blaming staff of ECG for causing the fire outbreak threatening to sue for compensation
The fire is believed to have started around 11:30am when all occupants were not in the house .
Smoke was only seen by neighbors billowing from the rooms around midday
Personnel from New Juaben South Municipal Fire Station of Ghana National Fire Service responded swiftly to the emergency calls but took several minutes before able to bring the fire under control due to nature of the building and low capacity of the over 25 year old fire tender brought to the scene.
The fire was totally extinguished after almost two hours when fire fighters managed to break into the rooms to have access.
Some occupants of the house were visibly angry accusing some ECG workers for causing the fire outbreak having angrily disconnected their rooms over outrageous estimated bills of Ghc6000 on their postpaid meters.
They have threatened to sue ECG for compensation.
Some eyewitnesses corroborated and suspected that the rambo style disconnection and tempering of the cables by ECG staff in attempt to deny them power triggered the fire outbreak .
Assembly Member for Two Streams Electoral Area ,Citizen Tetteh assured to lead the victims to drag the ECG to Public Utility and Regulatory Commission,PURC, for compensation for the victims.
The Ghana National Fire Service is however conducting investigation into the incident but similarly suspects the cause to be electric related .
