Some six hundred (600) Boarding students of Oti Boateng Senior High School in Koforidua, Eastern Region attend dining in the open under the hot scorching sun and unfavorable weather conditions due to lack of dining hall facility.
The old deplorable wooden dining hall facility in the school was pulled down for construction of a modern dining hall; however, the contractor has abandoned the site for almost a year forcing students to eat in the open in turns.
Students who are late to dinning are forced to pick their meals away compelling some to sneak food into their dormitories and classrooms to eat breeding cockroaches, bedbugs, and other insects.
Speaking to mybrytfmonline.com, some of the boarding students expressed worry about the situation stating that it is affecting their academic work.
The headmaster of the School John Hawkson Arthur refused to grant an interview on the discomforting situation in the school when approached.
An Old Student, Micheal Akrofi, who was on campus said the population of the school keeps increasing due to the implementation of the Free SHS policy putting pressure on the limited infrastructure facilities he, therefore, called on the government to ensure contractors who have abandoned the site return to complete infrastructural projects awarded them.
