The headmaster of Pentecost Preparatory School in Koforidua in the Eastern region, Elder Gabriel Narh Amiteye says all the victims of Thursday’s accident have been discharged except one who was admitted for further treatment for an x-ray.
The School bus transporting 30 pupils, a female teacher of Pentecost Preparatory School in Koforidua was involved in a near-fatal accident Thursday morning.
Fortunately, only a few sustained injuries but all occupants of the bus were rushed to Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua whilst a few were sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The accident occurred at about 6:30 am while the school bus with registration number GN 7377Y aboard by the Victims was approaching the Oyoko roundabout from Oyoko Palace direction of the Koforidua to Tafo Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver noticed something was wrong with the break and the steering wheel and hence attempted to park on the shoulders of the road however the Bus suddenly reversed, crashed and somersaulted into a ditch.
“Noami Agyemang, an eyewitness said ” I woke up to wash my clothes but while washing I saw the school bus parking at the roadside but all of a sudden, I saw the bus crashing into the ditch so I started shouting for help which attracted many residents to the scene to rescue the school children. We thank God only a few of the students and the female teacher sustained injuries “
Residents in the area rushed to the scene to rescue the school children before the joint team of Police, Ghana. National Fire Service and NADMO joined to help in the rescue operation.
The accident vehicle was towed away.
Apostle Samuel Osei Asante, Koforidua Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, Pastor Musa Yahaya, Area Secretary, Mrs Rejoice Yahaya, Ps. Samuel Amankonah, Ps. Edward Essandoh, Ps. Michael Fiif Bortsie, The School Chaplain, Ovr. Emmanuel Owusu Kissi, the Headmaster Gabriel Amiteye, PTA Chairman Kwami Agbenyagah, and some parents rushed to the hospitals to sympathize with the victims.
According to the headmaster, management does not joke with the maintenance of its fleets of buses and vehicles hence the accident however was waiting for the drivers to recover after being discharged to be interrogated to establish the cause of death.
Looking at the nature of the accident, it is miracle that saved the children.
