The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Effiduase District Police Command in Eastern Region has rearrested Vera Akosua Asare, a young woman accused of pouring acid on her boyfriend, Daniel Omane over suspicions of infidelity following death of the victim at Korle- Bu Teaching Hospital on Friday.
Omane, a 29-year-old mobile phone dealer in Koforidua sustained life-threatening injuries and was initially stabilized at the Eastern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra in February.
He has since been on admission at Korle -Bu Teaching hospital undergoing treatment and Skin Grafting surgery.
Vera Akosua Asare, who previously lived with her mother in a single room, moved to stay with Omane after giving birth to their baby girl, now two years old.
However, their relationship became strained due to frequent misunderstandings and allegations of infidelity.
The girlfriend reportedly chases and publicly hurled insults on ladies she suspected were flirting with her boyfriend .
Her misconduct forced Omane to end the relationship.
On the day of the attack early this year , Omane was asleep in his room when Vera Asare allegedly sneaked in and poured acid on him.
His screams alerted co-tenants, who rushed to his aid.
The suspect was apprehended and handed over to the police, while Omane was taken to the hospital.
The accused Vera Akosua Asare was initially remanded into police custody but was granted bail by the court to enable her to care for their child. She subsequently reappeared in court .
Following the death of the victim, the police has rearrested the accused person to press new charge of murder.
The CID has visited the Korle Bu Teaching hospital to obtain the necessary autopsy report to build strong evidence for prosecution.
