The Effiduase District Police command in Eastern Region accompanied by environmental officers and a pathologist, has successfully exhumed the skeletal remains of a mother allegedly murdered by her own son in Koforidua-Kyekyewere near Nyamekrom in the Eastern Region.
Police secured a corona inquest from the court, leading authorities to the crime scene for verification and subsequent exhumation.
The suspect, a twenty-six-year-old named Gideon Kojo Asomani Addo, buried his mother in a deep grave within an uncompleted building after allegedly killing her under the cover of night.
Mercy Oforiwaa, the victim, a retired staff member of Roads and Highway Authority, was declared missing on June 17, 2023, prompting a widespread search by her family and subsequent police involvement. Gideon, initially arrested for theft, took a dark turn during interrogation, confessing to the gruesome act.
The remains, discovered in a body bag, have been deposited in the morgue for a postmortem examination.
Gideon Kojo Asomani Addo is currently in police custody, cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
He is expected to be put before court today.
