The long Queue by prospective applicants for enlistment into Ghana Immigration Service is ongoing in Koforidua, the Eastern regional Capital has reached the galamsey Police station area from Koforidua SECTECH Campus at 7:00am Wednesday.
The long queue continues to increase from the screening center.
Some of the applicants spent the night at the center while others arrived at dawn.
The applicants in the queue are lining up at the roadside exposing them to danger especially should a vehicle veers of the road.
The security agencies have been criticized for taking thousands of Ghanaian youth seeking to be enlisted into the security service through harsh processes.
A former Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem North, Dennis Miracle Aboagye who is a member of the National Communication tram of the ruling New Patriotic Party for instance has stated that “It is outmoded, it is old school and completely crude to invite over 1,000 young people to one location on the same day for screening and physical selection. It creates mental health issues, it’s a health risk and it’s completely inefficient.
Alternatively and more prudently; “Send a text message to the number of applicants you can handle in a day.200. You can even apportion reporting times. Schedule the 1000s of applicants on separate days and in reasonable numbers.”
“Emphasis on smaller numbers per day and exercise over some time. Simple and easy to do. These young people waking up and reporting at 1:00am, sitting in the sun all day, running helter-skelter and the seeming manhandle of these applicants is inefficiency.
“Let’s review this approach and make this process more humane and more efficient. The current system and style are crude and barbaric. There are simple and prudent alternatives, let’s change and improve”
