Information gathered indicates that electorates across the country especially the Eastern Regional capital – Koforidua has refused to go and cast their vote saying they are busy.
According to some electorates Bryt FM News spoke to, they said Christmas is fast approaching yet they have nothing to celebrate it in terms of money so they need to concentrate on that rather than going to stand on the sun, vote for the assembly members but no development will be seen.
The Electoral Commission set today December 17th for the District Assembly and the Unit Committee Members election to be conducted across the country however Ghanaian citizens refused to oblige.
According to the electoral officials in the legion hall polling station (Oguaa Electoral Area) in the New Juaben South Constituency, 4 candidates contested for the District Assembly Members with 8 candidates for the unit committee.
He revealed that 681voters were expected to vote but 156 out of the figure cast their voted.
A visit to the Srodae electoral area and SDA education unit A and B, the Electoral officials in these centres indicated that 5 candidates contested for the District Assembly with no committee member with 396 out of 1393 voted as at this report.
At the Tanaso South polling stations all in Koforidua, there were two centres (Tanaso South A and B). From the electoral officials in these polling stations,3 candidates contested for only District Assembly with 279 out of 1100 voted.
In Nsukwao polling station, Koforiduamu and Eva Maria JHS were the recognized centres with 3 candidates. Out of 1214, 386 voted during the time of this report.
Due to security problems erupting during elections season, Police in the eastern region provided some security personnel to all polling stations to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.
Voting officially started at many polling stations at exactly 7:00 am and will end at 5: 00 pm.
