Many basic schools in New Juaben South municipality in Eastern region of Ghana lack computers.
Out of the 52 public basic schools in koforidua none has a computer Laboratory well equipped or stocked with computers.
This has created huge gap in teaching and learning of ICT in most public schools.
Teachers improvise or share their personal laptops with their pupils in shift during ICT practicals.
An ICT Teacher at Sarkodie M/A Basic School Mr. Michael Osei Ampah, he offers his personal laptop to the students during ICT practicals instead because there are many pupils that needed to have a hand touch to the use of the computer but there are no computers.
The situation he said sometimes compels teachers to borrow laptops from friends in the communities to augment their practical activities.
New Juaben South Municipal Director of Education Mustapha Haruna Appiah is worried about the development.
“There are some with just 2 Desktop or 1 desktop for a school with a population of 150 and Beyond. Making it impossible to have each student to a computer which is a challenge to ICT education in the municipality”the municipal education director lamented.
Education Director however said the MP for the New Juaben South Michael Okyere Baafi has assured, soon a two(2) e-smart schools will be open by the Education Ministry to help address the situation.
