The cultural unit of the Ghana Education service, Eastern Region, held this year’s basic school festival of Arts at Askore SDA College in the New Juabeng North Municipality, comprising six (6) supper zonal basic schools.
Teachers, parents and educational stake holders were thrilled with impressive cultural performance by basic school kids symbolizing the importance of preserving the Ghanaian culture and traditions.
Pupils were beautifully clad in the traditional regalia as they perform the drum language (talking drum), poetry, drama, story telling, choral music, sight singing, still drawing, cooking delicious traditional meals, sewing traditional dresses with hand needles constructions works, among others.
The Eastern Regional director of education, Mrs Ivy Owusu Asante called on parents and all stakeholders to contribute their quota in teaching the younger generation the importance of our culture and traditions.
Johnathan Ntow, the Eastern Regional cultural coordinator highlighted various activities and called on stakeholders for financial support, urging Nananom to fully get on board to teach the young Ghanaian during durbars and other important gatherings about the nations beautiful culture and traditons.
In a sideline interview with Joyce Aseidu, Akropong Zonal cultural coordinator elucidated the importance of preserving our culture whilst sending a wake up call for traditional leaders to fully get involved before the Ghanaian child loses touch of their own local language least to say about preserving the Ghanaian culture and traditions.
The participating zonal schools were;
Koforidua
Nkawkaw
Akim Oda
Asamankese
Kibi
Akropong
Among these six zones, Koforidua zone emerged as overall best winners.
