Planning Committee chairman of Ghana’s 67th Independence anniversary celebration, Dr. Lord Commey has emphasized on President Akufo-Addo’s decision to move the celebration to other regions as a way of ensuring all Ghanaians have a feel of it.
According to the Director of Operations at the Presidency, he is, however, challenging people in the region to make the celebration a memorable one as it is the first time of witnessing such an event.
He also elaborated on the Special Guest of Honour, President Alhassane Quattara and other dignitaries to participate in the event as over 150 High Commissioners and Ambassadors are likely to be present on the day.
The Eastern Regional minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong in his welcome address assured his outfit preparedness to ensure the celebration is well organised and recognised as compared to previous ones held outside Accra.
The minister urged all and sundry to visit the region and experience its cultural diversity, tourism and other rich cultural values.
Meanwhile, the Omanhene of the New Juaben traditional council, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng II who was chairman of the launch was grateful to government for selecting the Eastern Region for the celebration.
He was also optimistic the celebration would be a memorable one as the traditional leadership in the region are solely behind the Regional Coordinating Council and the Planning Committee in whatever the do to make it a success.
The launching was attended by politicians, traditional leaders, Heads of Departments, security services, students as well as a section of the Ghanaian populace.
