Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, the Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has initiated the reconstruction of the deteriorating St. Peter’s Anglican Basic School in Koforidua.
The school, which has stood for a century, is in a perilous state with deep cracks and dilapidated roofs despite previous repair efforts.
Rt. Rev. Felix Annancy, the Anglican Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, highlighted the urgent need for the intervention, emphasizing the potential danger the old building posed, especially during storms or heavy rains.
In response, Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi has broke ground to begin the construction of a new 12-unit storey classroom block, complete with toilet facilities and auxiliary offices, to replace the old structure.
This project, supported by GETFUND, aims to be completed within nine months.
During the construction period, around 800 pupils and their teachers will be relocated to ensure their safety and continuous education.
Contractor Umaru Isaka expressed confidence in completing the project on time, ensuring a secure and accessible learning environment for the students.
In recent years, educational standards in the New Juaben South municipality have significantly improved due to focused investments by the MP and the municipal Assembly, including infrastructure development, provision of educational materials, studentscomputers and various support programs for students including distribution of bicycles.
