The Koforidua and Effiduase Areas of The Church of Pentecost in Eastern Region has launched the “Agents of Peace campaign” in as part of efforts to ensure peace before, during, and after the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
The campaign aims to sustain national peace through awareness and positive actions by members of the Church in their communities.
The launch of Agents of Peace Campaign by Koforidua and Effiduase Areas of The Church of Pentecost was marked by a float through the streets of Koforidua, where participants carried placards with various peace messages.
Apostle Stephen Okyere Acheampong, Area Head, Effiduase said “In 2016, in 2020 we had such a program where we sent message of Peace to the people of Ghana that election is not about violence, it is about just exercising your franchise trying to get leaders for our country it is not anything fighting. So here we have started with float through the principal streets of Koforidua”.
The launch ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including the clergy, the Electoral Commission, political party representatives, traditional rulers, security services, and students, among others.
Several speakers commended the Church of Pentecost for the initiative and pledged their support to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
Dr. Martin Otu Offei, the NDC Parliamentary candidate for New Juaben South, reaffirmed his commitment to peaceful elections, echoing the campaign’s call for unity and coexistence.
“Four years ago I attended same program with the Church of Pentecost and I pladged that the election will be peaceful and indeed it was. It is same commitment wr the NDC is making. NDC led by John Mahama is a Peace loving party. However, the Electoral Commission must do the right thing to correct all the errors so we have clean register so we have Peace in the elections”, stated Dr. Martin Otu Offei, PC for NDC, New Juaben south
Apostle Mike Etrue, Koforidua Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, emphasized that the campaign would decentralize peace messages to all church assemblies to ensure that both members’ actions and inactions promote peace and harmony.
“We did this in 2016,2020 and 2024 too we are launching the Peace campaign. The essence is that we want Ghana to uphold the Peace that we are enjoying as Ghanaians , The Church of Pentecost is leading almost all the issues that concerns our societal lives. The church cares for the nation we are in the nation when the nation prospers the church also prospers. We are not going to be silent, we are also going to be praying, educating, make sure that the right things are being done. That is why we are launching this Peace campaign initiated by our dear chairman Apostle Eric Nyamekye”. Said Apostle Mike Etrue, Koforidua Area Head.
