President John Dramani Mahama has given renewed hope to residents of Kumasi, promising that the long-forgotten Krofrom Market—left abandoned since 2007—will finally be completed and fully operational by the end of 2026.
Once envisioned as a bustling trading hub, the market has instead become a den for criminals and a home for reptiles, sparking frustration among locals. But during his Thank-You Tour of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, July 16, Mahama inspected the dilapidated site and pledged swift action to bring it back to life.
Highlighting the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Market Enhancement Programme, Mahama revealed that Krofrom would be added to the list of 18 priority markets across Ghana targeted for restructuring.
“I have asked the Mayor to write to the Vice President and include Krofrom so that the project can be completed for good marketing. I believe that by the end of 2026, Krofrom Market will be completed,” he assured.
Market Queen, Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina, welcomed the promise with optimism, praising Mahama as the only leader capable of revitalizing the market and supporting traders. She pledged the unwavering support of market women for the NDC.
