The vice-chancellor of Koforidua Technical University, Prof. David Kofi Essumang has reiterated the need for all technical universities in the country to diversify and run technical courses geared towards industrial needs and also meets the aspirations of government job policies.
“The government has underlined four main key areas to develop the country and technical universities are mandated to help develop and train human resources to fix the many critical issues confronting the mechatronics sector in the country”.
He explained that “every technical university in Ghana is mandated to specialize in a particular field of technical course to meet the aspirations of the government and Koforidua technical university’s core mandate is mechatronics to train adequate human resources that are capable of fixing the new cars being imported into the country”.
He said the university is working around mechatronics to affect all other courses being run in the university particularly electronics and computer science, this he said will help to achieve their objectives.
Three technical universities in Ghana of which Koforidua technical university is part, and now runs a four year Bachelor degree program in Welding and Fabrication Engineering.
He then highlighted some unique courses being run by Koforidua university only such as; Bachelor of Technology in Mechatronics, Bachelor of Technology in Automotive Engineering, Bachelor of technology in food technology, Bachelor of technology in telecommunication Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Medical laboratory sciences, Bachelor of Technology in Environmental Management and Technology.
Bachelor of Technology in Building Technology, Bachelor of Technology in Integrated Development Planning, Bachelor of Technology in Welding and Fabrication Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Renewable Energy System Engineering, Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering, and Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science.
The Eastern regional GJA chairman, Maxwell Kudekor called on the university authorities to collaborate with the media by offering scholarship driven courses for journalists in the region, ” this will equip all journalists to acquire knowledge in that field and help enhance their skills in the reporting of technical issues concerning industry and academia”.
Finally, the university led by the vice-chancellor Prof. David Kofi Essumang awarded some journalists whose reportage on issues concerning the university has contributed to the growth and development of the university.
Some of the awardees are Kojo Ansah of Eastern regional correspondent of EIB Network, Maxwell Kudekor (Multimedia group) Eastern regional reporter and Ama Ampadu Agyeman (Ghanaian Times Newspaper), and Kwame Henyo Martin (TV Africa)
