Koforidua, Ghana – Koforidua Technical University (KTU) has responded to a Facebook post that raised concerns about medical examinations conducted by the university.
The post, titled “Koforidua Technical University, Why,” was published by ace Ghanaian Journalist Nana Aba Anamoah on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 ,and has prompted KTU to address the alleged misconceptions.
In a rejoinder issued by the university, Public Relations Officer Victoria A. Kuusangyele expressed regret that the post presented a one-sided story without seeking input from university authorities.
KTU criticized the reliance on information from an anonymous individual claiming to be a student, which they believe unfairly tarnished the institution’s reputation built over 27 years.
To clarify, KTU stated that the medical examination exercise is a mandatory requirement for all first-year students, a standard practice across tertiary institutions.
Due to the lack of X-ray facilities at the university clinic, students are required to have X-ray examinations at accredited health centers, which charge a fee.
The university emphasized that it does not set these fees, dismissing accusations of extortion as unfounded.
“The University Clinic has no X-ray facilities. Therefore, students are allowed to undertake the X-ray examinations at accredited Health Centres equipped with the facilities at a fee. Please note that Koforidua Technical University does not determine the fees being charged by the service providers and therefore the claim of Extortion is a figment of imagination of the nameless individual” The statement said.
KTU reiterated its mission to provide tertiary-level technical education and develop career-focused skills in collaboration with industry. The university requested that this rejoinder be published to provide a balanced perspective for readers.
KTU also encouraged verifying facts with authorized university officials before publishing sensitive matters in the future.
