Former deputy Transport Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover has taken a swipe at the Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Okraku, and said he is the reason why the Black Stars is not flourishing.
The domestic football governing body is believed to be unhappy with the performance of trainer Charles Kwabla Akonnor following the Black Stars 2022 World Cup defeat to South Africa.
The leaders of the federation are ready to wield the big axe on Akonnor despite the coach having an existing contract with the federation that expires early next year.
But according to the former Member of Parliament for Tema East, Akonnor cannot be faulted for Ghana’s uninspiring performance as he believes he has not been allowed to work freely.
In an interview with Sylvester Ntim of Bryt FM, he said, “Ghanaians calling for the sacking of Akonnor should exercise patience because the FA just want to give him a bad name. Akonnor has not been given the needed support by the FA so we shouldn’t blame him”
“The FA has been imposing players on him, players from Dreams FC and others have been getting call ups they don’t deserve so it is not surprising Braydon Manu said he does not merit the call-up. So, in this case, the FA is not giving Akonnor the room to operate”
“Why is it that a seasoned player like Christian Atsu is not invited, they just want players they can influence and this is not helping us”
“What I want Ghanaians to understand is that we shouldn’t blame Akonnor because the intimidation and imposition of players are too much. If you are a manager of a club you don’t have to impose a player on a coach, you can suggest instead. Is too early to say Akonnor is not a good coach”
“I will plead with the Minister of Youth and Sports to engage CK, Kurt Okraku, and his entourage because they are just playing with the heart of Ghanaians. They should allow CK to work”
“The FA is not helping the coach and wants to sack him; they are just playing. Truth be told, Kurt Okraku is the problem for Black Stars, not Akonnor. He should allow CK to do his job and the Minister too must not sit down” he said.
