The Chiefs and Elders of Kwahu Obomeng traditional area in the Eastern Region have caused the arrest of suspected Lesbians who were allegedly getting married.
According to the local Chiefs, they gathered information about the ceremony days before their arrival, therefore, informed Police to be on alert.
During the cause of the alleged birthday party, two females -one wearing a veil with the other dressed as bride and groom were introduced as the birthday celebrants.
But it was later detected that the two females were getting married.
At about 2:00am, the Chiefs instructed that the suspects be arrested.
“We rushed on them at about 2:0am and arrested them. They were about 30 persons including children. So 22 were handed over to the police. We will not allow m such an abomination to happen on our land.
The people are from all over Ghana. Some from Kumasi, Tema, etc., and some of our people may be part of the reason they brought them here.
We got a tip-off and laid vigilance about their activities. We are going to purify the town on Thursday” Chief of Obomeng Nana Effah Opinamang III told the media.
Kwasi Osei, Secretary to Obomeng Palace said, the suspect’s claim that they were organizing a birthday party cannot be true.
He said a prayer said by the man introduced as a Pastor even suggested that it was the same-sex marriage ceremony.
Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference (GCBC), National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), Ghana Pentecostal and Christian Council (GPCC), and all other Ecumenical Bodies in Ghana on 21st March 2021 held national prayer and fasting against strong advocacy for the legalization of LGBTQI in the country.
The theme for the National Prayer and Rally against LGBTQI+ was ” Homosexuality: A Detestable sin to God”.
LGBTQI+ community in Ghana have intensified advocacy for the protection of their rights creating a huge public uproar since LGBTQI + is not only an illegal but also an abominable act in Ghanaian culture.
Ghana security forces raided and shut down the National office of an LGBTQI+ rights group in the capital, Accra last month.
