President Akufo-Addo has revealed that Kwahu South (Mpraeso) District Assembly has been upgraded to a Municipality.
President Akufo-Addo made this known on Sunday, 22nd November, on day 1 of his 2-day tour of the Eastern Region, when he interacted with the Chiefs and people of Nkawkaw constituency.
He said the elevation from the District to Municipal status will enhance the development of the area and improve the living condition of the people.
He said the district has exceeded the needed requirement required of a district to be upgraded into a municipality.
The Kwahu South District is one of the twenty-six (26) District Assemblies in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It was established in 1988 under L. I 1988, Act 1742. Kwahu Mpraeso is the district capital.
The current District Chief Executive is Hon Attah Ofori.
District shares common boundaries with Kwahu East to the North, Asante-Akim South to the West, the Kwahu West Municipality, and East Akim District to the South and Fanteakwa District to the East.
Specifically, it lies between latitudes 6°35” N and 6° 45” N and longitude 0° 55” W and 0° 20” W. The current size of Kwahu South District is 602km².
The strength of Kwahu South District lies in two major identified development areas of comparative advantage.
These areas are the agricultural and tourism sectors. Therefore, development plans of the Assembly have been geared towards improving the two identified areas to trickle down development in other sectors.
